We historical detectives never rest!

The local history archives at Bruce Castle have been giving up more secrets to Fran and Jules over the Spring break - including who lived in the Victorian House in 1901 and the names of the servants in the houses which occupied the site of Coleridge West.

All the rumours about a convent are unfounded, sorry!

The story the “Time Travellers” in the performance will tell is beginning to take shape – many of the ideas the children have already created are there, but with plenty of opportunities to add more. This will happen during the next phase of the project – everyone can be involved: how and when will become clearer as the journey continues…..

If you’d like to find out more about the process, take a look in the small hall in Coleridge West – see the “evidence wall”, and ask the children: not all the answers about history can be found in books or on the World Wide Web!

Fran and Jules are usually working in school on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays – if you’d like to help in any way, seek them out.

This will be the best way of keeping up with news and progress of the Coleridge Primary School Creative Partnerships project: Time Travellers.

Fran Gore – a visual artist, and Jules Tipton – a theatre practitioner & and; director, are working together with everyone at Coleridge Primary School to create a piece of “site-specific” theatre which will be performed during the summer term.

The whole school community is involved: the children – from nursery through to year 6; the staff and hopefully even some of the parents.

How far will time go?

We’ve already been encouraging the children to become history detectives – using IT skills as well as visiting the local archives, and talking to older people who live in the area.

They have been sharing stories and personal histories which will be woven together to create part of the story of children who discover a way to begin time-travelling: they visit the past – will they find out who lived in the Victorian House which stands in the grounds of their school? Will they discover that history is not “just about dead people”?
